Why
We Went Organic
We have always been tobacco farmers, but tobacco quotas have
decreased by 50%. This threatened our economic stability;
therefore, we decided to look to the past to assure our farm's
future. Years ago, Alleghany County was a big sheep-producing
county. We believed that we could become a sheep producing
farm, but we needed help to make this dream a reality. We
turned to RAFI (Rural Advancement Foundation International-USA).
They funded us with a grant to jump start our sheep farm.
Since 2003 our business had grown to over 50 head of Katahdin-Dorper
Cross ewes and a ram. However, due to the drought in recent years we were forced to specialize in only Angus Beef. We also run two organic greenhouses
and sell through ECO (Eastern Carolina Organics) and are happy
to supply to private businesses or individuals. We are certified
organic through ICS (International Certification Services).
